It deals with Napoleon and Russia and how volcanoes and climate affected both the Russian Campaign of 1812 and the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. The indonesian stratovolcano Tambora had erupted in April 1815 and it led directly to the "Year without a summer" of 1816. Furthermore, the colossal amounts of dust and sulphur dioxide released into the atmosphere led to the monsoon like rains that dogged the weary soldiers tramping through it on their way to the field of Waterloo - aptly named in hindsight! This book is welcomed and endorsed by the great French historian Jean-Claude Damamme. He was kind enough to say that he particularly likes the chapter on Napoleon and Russia.
